Internal corrosion in oil- and gas pipelines is often kept under control by means of adding corrosion inhibitor, that is organic products added in small amounts to the well stream in order to form a protective film on the steel surface.  Inhibitor testing is an important activity at IFE.  This work is focused especially towards multiphase pipelines, where simple standard tests very often are not sufficient to get adequate results.  The Institute also performs field specific tests of corrosion inhibitors in flow loops, autoclaves and glass cells.
