Pipelines without rust
Carbon steel is still considered the only economically feasible material for long pipelines. The problem is that the pipes corrode when they come in contact with water and dissolved CO2.
IFEs research on corrosion in oil and gas pipelines has created innovative solutions for the petroleum industry.
By adding substance into the pipelines, the corrosion is inhibited. Some balances the pH, others are absorbed by the steel surface and protects against corrosion. With this method researches has reduced corrosion by 95 percent. The methods have saved the petroleum industry for large sums, both in Norway and internationally.
