Protection of people and the environment
IFE has two units for radiation protection, one in Halden and one at Kjeller. These units monitor everything that implies ionizing radiation and radioactive substances related to IFEs activities. The units also conduct research.
Their main job is to ensure that the use of radiation sources and radioactive material at IFE is in accordance with national laws and regulations, and with recommendations from international organizations.
The scientists measure radiation fields, monitor radiation, measure emissions into the environment and radioactive pollution. They can also take commissions outside IFE, and estimate radiation conditions and risks in workplaces and in housing areas
