The JEEP II research reactor

The JEEP II reactor is a world class research instrument, and it plays a significant role in the development of some forms of renewable energy. The reactor is one of a kind in Scandinavia available for this purpose.

These are the three main areas for the JEEP II reactor at Kjeller, Norway:

  1. Basic research in physics. Including material research, nano technology and hydrogen storage. With neutrons produced in the reactor it is possible to “see” small structures and study atoms and molecules in a manner no other research instruments are capable of.
  2. Silicon doping. Mainly for usage in power electronics, hereunder electrical and hybrid cars.
  3. Isotope production. For medical and industrial purposes. Industrial use includes control sources for density and quantity measurements. Medical purposes include radio pharmacy mainly used in diagnose and treatment of cancer.
