Nuclear power plants are complex and dynamic, and are characterised by a complicated interaction between human beings, technical equipment, and organisational elements. To better understand human performance, the influence of organisational factors has to be addressed.

The Halden Project’s focus on organisational factors can be looked upon as an extension of human factors into group, work processes, and social aspects. Our focus in this research area concentrates particularly on how operational practices may differ within and between organisations, and how such practices can relate to extended control room issues which may have cultural implications. Another current focus in this area is a feasibility investigation of organisational factors in incident investigations.
