Cells in the sun
The solar industry is growing and IFE plays an important role in the development of the technology in this field. In cooperation with the solar companies IFE is developing solutions for the greatest challenge in the solar industry; to lower the cost of solar technology.
Most solar cells made today are based on thin slices of the element silicon. The research at IFE’s solar laboratory is based on the entire value chain of production of such solar cells.
IFE’s solar scientists have, with modern equipment, built up a complete process line for generating silicon-based solar cells. For this reason they have the opportunity to optimize and further develop the various process steps.
The researchers are working with the element silicon, the individual solar cells, complete solar panels and solar-based energy systems.
IFE has the largest scientific community in the country on solar technology.
