- American nuclear control room operators in Halden
- - We believe your research will pay huge benefits for the next generations of nuclear operators, and we'd like to encourage all of you to continue to pursue excellence in control room design, states the feedback from the American crew.
- The fuel cell car is here
- These days, the first “real” hydrogen cars are rolling out on Norwegian roads. IFE is among the few, lucky ones with access to one of these rare models.
- Promising results for aluminium production with CO2 capture
- - We have proved that the concept is technically viable, and believe that it is possible also at large scale, says Project Manager Johann Mastin from IFE’s Environmental Technology Department.
- IFE hosted Nordic seminar on materials for Gen IV nuclear power
- Close to 70 attendants from 12 countries took part in the NOMAGE4 seminar in Halden, from October 30 to November 1st. NOMAGE4 is a Nordic forum for material research related to the next generation, Gen IV, nuclear reactors, established in 2009.
- Three IFE physicists on prestigious team
- The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has picked the sharpest minds to form an elite team in complex physics. Three of its members are from the Institute for Energy Technology, IFE.
- Gunnar Randers' Research Prize 2011
- The prize ceremony will be at IFE Kjeller May 5. Professor Mogens H. Jensen from Denmark is awarded the prize for his groundbreaking basic research on complex matter systems.
- Emergency Process Information System for Loviisa NPP
- During January-June 2010, IFE designed, implemented and installed an emergency process information system at the two units of Loviisa nuclear power plant in Finland. The system is based on IFE’s software package for human-system-interfaces, ProcSee, and will be used in case of an emergency situation at the plant to enable remote monitoring of key process parameter values at the Finnish radiation authorities and at Fortum’s emergency monitoring centre. The system has passed Fortum’s and STUK’s acceptance testing and was put in operation in early August 2010.
- Norway – a climate winner?
- As a consequence of climate change, increased precipitation and higher temperatures, Norway may get a large surplus of power and cheaper electricity. Pernille Seljom at IFE, is one of the researchers involved in a project analysing how the climate changes may influence Norway’s energy system towards 2050.
- United plan for new, offshore wind test plant
- In these days the Norwegian research community is working intensely at realising a plan for a new ocean wind power test installation. The three centres for environment-friendly energy research NORCOWE, NOWITECH and CEDREN have joined forces in a plan to build a new, Norwegian large-scale infrastructure that will take offshore wind research a significant step forward.
- Centre for research on CO2 storage opened
- Thursday April 8 2010 was the official opening of the new SUCCESS centre established to advance research in the area of CO2 storage. The centre is hosted by Christian Michelsen Research (CMR), and IFE is a central partner.
- New President at Institute for Energy Technology
- Research Director Eva S. Dugstad has been appointed as new President at Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) with effect from May 1st 2010.

- New book: Physical principles of sedimentary basin analysis
- What kind of physical changes happens in the geological layers at the base of the ocean? Mathematical modelling of sedimentary basins gives answers to such questions. The author of the book "Physical principles of sedimentary basin analysis" is Principal Scientist Magnus Wangen at IFE.
- Major investment in radiopharmaceuticals at IFE
- The radiopharmaceutical company Algeta ASA has decided to place the pharmaceutical production of their new cancer treatment, Alpharadin, to IFE’s facilities at Kjeller.
- IFE’s President gave an opening speech at the Nordic Council’s climate conference
- The conference ”Paving the way – Concrete measures to tackle climate change” was held in Stockholm October 26 2009, and was part of the Swedish EU-presidency process leading up to the UN climate conference in Copenhagen in December.
