- Abstract
- The paper discusses the limitation and challenges of simulating field conditions in small scale corrosion flow loop experiments. It is focused on the importance of water chemistry control, the impact of mixing oil and water in the experiment, the simulation of shear stresses and flow regimes, and the effect of oxygen contamination. Small changes in any of these variables can give huge effects on corrosion and this will be illustrated with examples from previous lab work. The objective is to show how important it is to understand and control the dynamics of the test system before the test results are used to predict the performance of the carbon steel and corrosion inhibitors in the field. ©NACE International.
