IFE has developed two complementary basin models, BAS and MIG3D, which have been used in large number of case studies for the industry. Both BAS and MIG3D simulate the entire geohistory of a basin in three dimensions (3D), and BAS can also be used as a 1-D or 2-D tool. It computes the heat flow, temperature, thermal indicators, fluid flow, fluid pressures, mechanical compaction, chemical compaction (like quartz cementation), rock properties, hydrocarbon generation and expulsion.
MIG3D simulates hydrocarbon generation primary migration, secondary migration, accumulation in traps, drainage areas, migration paths, spill, leakage, and remigration. MIG3D may be operated as a stand-along simulator, or as a post-processor to BAS. In the latter case, BAS results are interpolated into the much finer grids that are normally used by MIG3D.
