Product development and production welding for Norwegian and International companies take up to 75 % of the workload. The products are departed into two main groups. Group one contains equipment for jet engines, aerospace and military products in steel, titanium, and aluminium. The second group consists of equipment for the petroleum industry; measuring sensors, valves, etc. in stainless steels, nickel alloys, and titanium.
Electron Beam Welding is a high energy density process. A powerful beam of electrons is focused on to the metal. The density can reach 107 W/cm2, higher than any other known welding process, including laser welding.
Components, as glass sensors that are not allowed to be in high temperature, can be welded with EB-welding with great success. The heat input in the welding area is low.
EB-welding has also other great advantages. Welding of “unweldable” materials and dissimilar materials are possible with EB-welding. Welding with large differences in thickness, and welding of machined and heat treaded components without machining afterwards is also possible.
