Emergency Process Information System for Loviisa NPP
During January-June 2010, IFE designed, implemented and installed an emergency process information system at the two units of Loviisa nuclear power plant in Finland. The system is based on IFE’s software package for human-system-interfaces, ProcSee, and will be used in case of an emergency situation at the plant to enable remote monitoring of key process parameter values at the Finnish radiation authorities and at Fortum’s emergency monitoring centre. The system has passed Fortum’s and STUK’s acceptance testing and was put in operation in early August 2010.

Norway – a climate winner?
As a consequence of climate change, increased precipitation and higher temperatures, Norway may get a large surplus of power and cheaper electricity. Pernille Seljom at IFE, is one of the researchers involved in a project analysing how the climate changes may influence Norway’s energy system towards 2050.

IFE and the University of Oslo sign framework agreement establishing new Birkeland Centre
The Rector of the University of Oslo (UiO), Ole Petter Ottersen, and IFE’s President, Eva S. Dugstad signed a new framework agreement July 1st. UiO and IFE have had a formal collaboration since 1984, but the new agreement signifies a tighter and more comprehensive relationship.

United plan for new, offshore wind test plant
In these days the Norwegian research community is working intensely at realising a plan for a new ocean wind power test installation. The three centres for environment-friendly energy research NORCOWE, NOWITECH and CEDREN have joined forces in a plan to build a new, Norwegian large-scale infrastructure that will take offshore wind research a significant step forward.

Centre for research on CO2 storage opened
Thursday April 8 2010 was the official opening of the new SUCCESS centre established to advance research in the area of CO2 storage. The centre is hosted by Christian Michelsen Research (CMR), and IFE is a central partner.

New book: Physical principles of sedimentary basin analysis
What kind of physical changes happens in the geological layers at the base of the ocean? Mathematical modelling of sedimentary basins gives answers to such questions. The author of the book "Physical principles of sedimentary basin analysis" is Principal Scientist Magnus Wangen at IFE.

Major investment in radiopharmaceuticals at IFE

The conference ”Paving the way – Concrete measures to tackle climate change” was held in Stockholm October 26 2009, and was part of the Swedish EU-presidency process leading up to the UN climate conference in Copenhagen in December.

Honourable prize to Tor Bjørnstad, Department Head of Reservoir and Exploration Technology
