The Halden Project, administered by Institute for Energy Technology, is an international cooperation for safety and technological development. The project attends to the need for national competence in reactor technology and contributes to the Norwegian radiation control. The project is financed by the member countries. The members of the Halden Project are mainly governmental control agencies and organizations who execute reactor safety research.
Reactor safety
The Contract has since the start been renewed on a three year basis, making the current contract number 17 in the line. During the last 50 years, the Project has headed the research front on its specialities; reactor fuel and material research, and development of computer-based systems for supervision and control, which are all central for the reactor safety. Because of the flexible construction of the reactor, the delivery of relevant research results has been possible continuously.
Anniversary Committee
The last 50 years will be duly celebrated in 2008. A committee has been formed to realise the anniversary program. Quickly it was evident that one single event covering all the parties one would like to invite on such an occasion, was an impossible option. The solution is therefore to arrange several events aimed at different stakeholders throughout the year.
Some 2008 highlights
- Open Day arranged for the people of Halden on Saturday April 26th.
- Energy conference at Holmenkollen Park Hotel, on June 11th. The theme will be nuclear power, safety and international cooperation.
There will be held various events for the Project’s current and previous employees (e.g. pensioners, secondees)
Scholarship for high school student
In addition the Project wishes to award a scholarship in association with the anniversary. It will be awarded a senior high school student in the county of Østfold, who wants to continue his or her studies with the purpose of finding solutions for the future energy- and climate challenges. The scholarship will be awarded based on the applicants own statements. More info to come.
The Anniversary Committee and all of IFE warmly welcome everybody to Open Day on April 26th!
