Objective and scope
Some of the objectives of the workshop are:
- Review recent trends on procedure development and management, primarily within the NPP industry but also in other comparable trades.
- Share views on the usefulness of existing guidelines when it comes to designing and licensing computerized procedure systems.
- Human factors issues relating to computerized procedures, e.g. level of automation, dealing with (partially) unavailable I&C, switching to back-up system (e.g. paper based procedures)
- Review current activities to develop and improve computerized procedure guidelines. Several guidelines are in existence today but to what extent are they useful when building and licensing computerized procedure systems?
- Review tools that may be applied to facilitate procedure development and management and identify requirements on the description arising from the application of these tools.
- Discuss whether the relationship between procedure descriptions and other types of plant description should affect the procedural description to any extent or quality.
- Review current or planned standardization efforts regarding procedures or related descriptions. Nominate preliminary requirements to a possible future procedure description standard.
- Nominate qualities of an adequate standardization process leading up to the definition of a standardized procedure description.
- Advice on the role of the Halden Project regarding development of procedure description standards and computerized procedure implementation guidelines>
As is the case when developing other operator support systems, it is highly recommendable to put the work to develop computerized procedure solutions in a holistic perspective. This is of concern both when describing the procedures and when designing the associated computerized supportive solutions. One of the extreme consequences of such a mindset is that all kind of plant descriptions (not only procedural) should be founded on one single plant description formalism. Even though such a goal is very ambitious, it facilitates the integration of all kinds of plant description and their corresponding computerized solutions. Furthermore, this holistic perspective should not be restrained to procedure description. It should also be applied with regard to the procedure presentation and interaction. This perspective is of high concern in many control room upgrade projects today where the designed solution is a hybrid control room. In such situations it is important to assert that the resulting presentation and interaction solutions is sufficiently in agreement.
