What's New in RadVis 1.1b
=========================
This is a maintenance release. Most of the bugs fixed in this
release are user interface behaviour issues.
BETA Release information
------------------------
This is a beta release of DESIRE RadVis 1.1. The final release
is scheduled for 30th July 2004. This release has been labelled
as a beta because there are few outstanding issue (see below) of
a mostly cosmetic nature that remain to be fixed and the
development team will be on vacation until the 19th July 2004.
We recommend that users update to version 1.1 when it is
released and encourage users to submit bug reports should
any currently unidentified issues surface.
New Features
------------
The following features are new in release 1.1b:
* X3D file format (VRML 2004 - ISO/IEC FDIS 19775:2004) is now
supported for 3D geometry, in addition to ISO VRML97.
See <http://www.web3d.org/> for details about X3D.
* 3D geometry files can be dragged and dropped onto the 3D view
as a shortcut for the File > Replace Model... menu item.
Bug Fixes
---------
The following bugs have been addressed since 1.0
(Provisional Acceptance):
#4 If the background has been off (View > Background), the box
geometry representation is very difficult to see if the user
selects View > Box.
#5 The predefined viewpoints do not work as the user would expect
when in examine navigation mode.
#6 Overall mouse interaction after detaching the dosimeter when
in examine navigation mode is incorrect.
#7 Sometimes when detaching the dosimeter from body, the
cone/box geometry in the HUD disappears.
#8 The detached dosimeter is difficult to use in conjunction with
the Columbus model because it appears too far in front of the
user when it is initially detached.
#9 The Forward/Back buttons in the project chooser should be
disabled when the user is already at the last/first project in
the list.
#10 The direction indicated in the HUD representation when using a
detached dosimeter is not updated when the user moves relative
to the location, so the direction that it points in is incorrect
relative to the view.
#11 When viewing data that is not interpolated, undefined values are
shown as having value 0, whereas they should be shown as
undefined.
Known Issues
------------
The following issues will be fixed in the official 1.1 release:
#12 If no direction is set in the data set then should revert to
showing a box in the HUD if the previously displayed set used
a cone.
#13 Dragging and dropping a project file into the 3D view from a
location other than the RadVis installation "data" directory
will result in RadVis not locating the Columbus model or
background unless the full URL paths are specified in the
project file, or the geometry files are copied so that they are
located relative to their definitions in the project file.
Dragging a link/alias to a project file onto the 3D view will
similarly fail. The correct intended behaviour is that RadVis
should search in its data directory for files that it otherwise
cannot find relative to project files. If RadVis still cannot
find a file, it should prompt the user to locate it rather than
issue a "model not found" error message.
Consequences of work in progress towards the 1.1 release:
# The dosimeter sometimes stops being updated. Detaching and
reattaching the dosimeter will usually start it working again
# The dosimeter sometimes shows a cone for a purely scalar
dataset (related to #12 above) and does not respect an override
(e.g. user wants boxes only) made in the Options dialog for any
data set.
# A detached dosimeter representation appears occassionally where
the HUD would normally be, even when the HUD is off.
# As a consequence of #12, non-directional boxes are also rotated
relative to the view, and sometimes clip their corners.
# It is possible to load a geometry file even when no project
has been loaded by dragging and dropping it on the 3D view.
