Tracer Analysis

Reliable and sensitive chemical or radiochemical analyses are important prerequisites for Tracer Technology. Hence the main function of this section is to provide “state of the art” methods for the determination of IFE`s tracer molecules in the various sample matrices related to the Petroleum Industry.

 Cat A

For this purpose the following modern analytical instrumentation is available:

  • Several HPLC systems equipped with sensitive detectors such as
Electrochemical Detector, Fluorescence Detector or UV/VIS- Detector
  • Various GCs with Electron Capture Detector, Electrolytic Conductivity Detector and Flame Ionization Detector
  • 3 GC/MS and 1 GC/MS-MS
  • Several Scintillation Counters and γ-Detectors

Environmental compatibility is in general of growing importance and is one major driving force for the continuous improvement of the techniques used for Tracer Analysis. Our goal is to provide the Petroleum Industry with the most sensitive analytical techniques in order to reduce the amount of chemicals used to an absolute minimum.

The progress in Well and Production Technology is another challenge for Tracer Analysis. Unmanned platforms, intelligent wells and the implementation of sub sea templates require an increasing degree of automatization and in many cases new technical solutions to get the tracers sampled and analysed.

10 highly skilled employees perform annually several thousand tracer analyses and are engaged in various research projects in order to face the challenges in Tracer Analysis.
