All radiopharmaceuticals used in Norwegian hospitals are ordered and distributed by the Isotope Laboratories. Operations at the laboratories include a pharmaceutical and radiation protection related control of the radiopharmaceuticals before distribution to the hospitals. This control is an important part of the total quality assurance of the patient's medical treatment.

The Isotope Laboratories also deal with the production of special radiopharmaceuticals which are not readily available on the market. It also performs and develops techniques for labelling of radioactive nuclides to peptides, proteins and other relevant substances for use in research and clinical studies.
