Experiment Execution: About 25-35 instrumented fuel and material test assemblies are usually loaded in the Halden Boiling Water Reactor (HBWR). The test assemblies are fitted with a wide range of instruments in order to characterize a large number of properties of nuclear fuel and materials.
Reactor Chemistry: The Reactor Chemistry Section in the Experimental Engineering Department in Halden has two laboratories; one operational and the other analytical. Seven Chemists work in these two laboratories. The laboratory working fields are mostly aqueous systems, which range from high purity to waste water.
Electronics: All in-core sensors installed in the HBWR output low level electrical signals that require careful follow up. The electronics section monitors the quality of electrical signals all the way from out-of-pile qualification, through experiment execution and finally after unloading of the test rig assemblies from the HBWR.
